I’m sitting in my hotel room at Isle Biloxi right now, so I’m going to make this a short post (+1 for Isle and free wifi).

WMS on Twitter has mentioned Epic Monopoly so I’ve been wanting to try it  (BTW, you should follow WMS.  They actually talk to you!) .  I tried to play it on my last trip to Tunica and it was never free.  We had the same problem at Isle so we finally sat at some machines around it, Mrs Gambler and I ready to pounce :-)  We out lasted a couple little old ladies and finally got our chance. (Update 3/17/2012 – Lot of people hitting this post looking for Total Rewards codes. You probably want this post.)

I try not to be taken in by those clever marketing programs the casinos are always running but sometimes I just can’t help myself. With all the money Caesars seems to be putting into their latest Total Rewards Escape to Millions campaign, quite a few of you are going to be pleased you entered.

If you follow me on twitter, you know we are heading to Tunica December 19.  Why?  Because I have three kids home from school and it gets scary around here!  So, they will be watching the dogs while we get away :-)

I’ll likely be tweeting out the trip from @Cheapgambler… well, at least until Mrs. Cheapgambler makes me put the iPhone away.  We won’t be hitting the Museum or the Hollywood Cafe this time – these are good places but there is so much of Tunica we have yet to visit. (more…)

OK, After my last post, I planned on posting about who in the casino world is using social media right but something else came up. Great deals! (more…)

I was watching football at sports pub the other night and we got to a slow point in the game. This seemed like a good time to check any comps I got after visting a few casinos early in the month. Harrahs,  Boyd, and MGM all  have iPhone apps which is MUCH better than having to log on to the casino web site with a tiny browser. (more…)

In principle I like the idea of a customer loyalty program. In practice they could be better.  The Total Rewards has been irritating me this week.

I first got my Total Reward card on a trip to Harrah’s Tunica. A few months later they sent me and my wife a couple nights free.  Harrah’s got our business a second time and also encouraged us to make the 4.5 hour drive because of the free room.

Later that year, we went to Harrah’s New Orleans (loyalty card is working!).  Now this is a long trip for us. Again we got comps, this time for free meals and slot play every month. I guess if you live in New Orleans, this would be a good deal since you can go to the casino whenever you want. In our case, a free meal was certainly not motivation to fly back.

You remember the water cycle from junior high earth science, right? Rain falls, it feeds the flowers and makes rivers, it flows to the ocean, it evaporates, and becomes clouds and then rain.

Casinos have a cycle too. Marketing does promotions to get business, customers get deals and head to the casino towns to take advantage of the deals, the town profits from visitors eating at the restaurants and staying at the hotels, casinos make more money, and do more promotions.

And the customers that have a good time?  They tell their friends.

I went looking for some good youtube videos to explain some basic concepts in gaming and mathematics.  What I found were a huge number of videos on how to” beat the casinos”, “systems that always win”, and “how to become a professional gambler”. Are there this many people out there that think getting rich quick is this easy? (more…)
