#IsleRoadTrip Series

Vicksburg
We are on day 2 our our tour of Mississippi and Louisiana.  Vicksburg has been a big positive surprise.   My dad is a big civil war buff as is my oldest son. It skipped a generation with me but you can’t live with either of them without hearing about the battle of Vicksburg.

The big thing here, of course, is the historical battle field which I’m TOTALLY unqualified to talk about (here is another good link from the Civil War trust). So, I’ll point out the nice city, pretty views of the river, shopping and several fun casinosYou can also go a bit photo happy taking pictures of downtown.  We hit some great murals by the river and also the Coca Cola museum (short but fascinating).

If you don’t want to stay at brand name or casino hotels (we are at the Lady Luck but there are several others), there are some nice bed and breakfasts in the town’s historical homes.  We made the mistake of not spending more time here and I’d recommend blocking off two or three days if you are doing a tour like us.

Below are a few pictures we captured. I’d hit the Vicksburg visitors site for some quality information. They are a class act with well done and useful information. On twitter, reach out to @VisitVicksburg (thanks Webster!)  Unlike many CVB’s that just broadcast, these folks will talk with you. That is always a good sign.
